Director’s Statement
We were just coming off an intense and challenging seven-night shoot on the streets of St Kilda for Daughter with a big cast and crew so we wanted to do something smaller, simpler, something just for fun.
The concept came from the Reddit thread Two Sentence Horror Stories — we chose a story by user jmperson and gave it a cinematic twist in the spirit of classic creepypasta. No script — just the concept and a shot list. Then we called a few friends and said, “Hey, want to shoot a horror film this Friday night?”
From concept to casting, crewing, and shooting, the entire production came together in just three days. The biggest challenge was the special effects makeup, handled brilliantly by Amy-lee Cameron, a rising MUA talent we’ve worked with before. We shot overnight, wrapped at sunrise, and made it all happen on a few hundred dollars and pure creative energy. Midnight was made fast, dirty, and with love. It’s short, it’s sharp, and it’s meant to crawl under your skin.
